Milk Essay - 680 Words

On the 24th day of February was the Sibley day of Lindenwood University. Events were all over the place but I decided to participate in just three of the events. One of which I attended took place at Roemer 209 at 1pm and it was a movie titled: â€Å"Milk†. There were about 30 people who came to watch the movie including and that was just right for the class room that was used was rather small. The head of the organization that hosted the event presented the theme of the movie as well as the plot. He relayed to us the message of social unity and upholding of social integrity. Even though the society is diverse in so many ways, one should learn to accept the different nature, belief, and sexuality of others. He emphasized solely†¦show more content†¦Harvey and his new gay partner have just moved to San Francisco, where they try to establish themselves in business. In opening a camera/photo shop, they receive a rather hostile welcome from their neighbors who told them that it is against the law in the city to be homosexual. The scenario expose the need to legalize free choice of sexuality and to bring about rights to homosexuals in the U.S.A. Harvey, the chosen one, decides that something must be done. So then he encourages other homosexuals around the city to be bold and proud of their sexuality. With his camera shop as a symbolic home for oppressed homosexuals, Harvey establishes a sense of independence and the right of freedom of sexual orientation in the hearts of the gay people. Latter in the movie, the police start to notice the boldness of the gay people. They attack a gay bar and beat up the so called social rejects. Milk felt strong about the social conflict and decided to run for the post of City Supervisor, being his first step toward the campaign to legalize homosexuality. He is latter threatened with death through an anonymous letter, and sees this as the motivation he needs to pursue his campaign objective. Running for political office needs persuasion of the public.
